About Us
A Legacy of Protecting California's Wildlands & Communities
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection — commonly known as Cal Fire — has been a cornerstone of public safety in Stanislaus County since our Patterson station was established. We serve a diverse landscape of oak woodlands, agricultural lands, and rapidly growing residential communities.
Our mission is straightforward: prevent wildfires before they start, respond with speed and precision when they do, and help our neighbors build resilient communities that can coexist with the natural environment. Whether it's a brush fire in the rolling hills east of Patterson or a structure fire in a new subdivision, we're here.

Fire Prevention
Simple Steps to Protect Your Home
Most structure losses during wildfires are preventable. Here's what our firefighters recommend for every property in the wildland-urban interface.
1
Clear Your Roof & Gutters
Remove dead leaves, pine needles, and debris from your roof and gutters — ember storms travel miles and can ignite through accumulated debris.
2
Create Defensible Space
Maintain at least 100 feet of cleared vegetation around your home. Remove ladder fuels, thin trees, and keep grass mowed short during fire season.
3
Use Fire-Resistant Materials
Upgrade to Class A roofing, double-paned windows, and non-combustible siding. Vents should have 1/8-inch metal mesh to block embers.
4
Plan Your Escape Route
Know at least two ways out of your neighborhood. Keep your address visible, your driveway wide enough for emergency vehicles, and your go-bag packed.
